Bjorem Spelling with Homophones Deck

Homophones are words that sound alike but have different meanings and spellings (example meat vs. meet). Since English has many spelling alternatives for speech sounds (rein, rain, and reign), we have many homophones. We depend on both spelling and context to activate relevant meanings and suppress irrelevant meanings in both oral and written language. Ambiguous words pose a greater challenge to students with language difficulties, and for all of us, learning about homophones builds our vocabulary and spelling knowledge in addition to our reading abilities.

• Match homophone cards to each other
• Provide sentences with a given homophone and have students choose the target word

Cards are 6.5cm x 6.5cm. Packaged in a bright and sturdy box: 7.6cm x 7.6cm x 11.5cm.

Cues are a thick soft matte texture, they are not shiny or laminated so children with vision impairments do not get the glare.
