Free Spirit Survival Guides Series

Straightforward, friendly, and loaded with practical advice, these books give kids the tools they need to not only survive, but thrive. With plenty of realistic examples and bright illustrations, the Free Spirit Survival Guides for Kids are accessible, encouraging, kid-friendly, and even life-changing.

Free Spirit founder Judy Galbraith published the The Gifted Kid’s Survival Guide in 1983. As a former classroom teacher and specialist in gifted education, Judy recognised a clear need for books to help children and teens navigate life’s challenges leading her to become the first publisher to focus on self-help materials to help young people lead better lives. Her book was the first of many Free Spirit survival guides offering young people who face learning, social, or behaviour challenges real help for real problems.

In 2013, Free Spirit relaunched four of their most popular survival guide titles as a special line: the Free Spirit Survival Guides for Kids. In 2014, two more titles joined the line, with another forthcoming in 2015.
