SPELD Parent Workshop in Narrabeen - Help Your Child to Read and Write

Do you want to help your child learn to read and write?

As parents, we know the importance of reading aloud to our children. However, research shows that this alone is not enough to teach them how to read and spell.

SPELD NSW are hosting an evening workshop titled Help Your Child to Read and Write:

Where: Lakeview Hall (upstairs) at The Tramshed Arts & Community Centre (Narrabeen Lagoon), 1395A Pittwater Road, Narrabeen

When: Wednesday 5 December 2018. Doors open at 6.45pm for a 7.15pm start. Workshop runs for 90 minutes with time for questions after.

Cost: SPELD Members $25, Non-members $30

Bookings: Click on the external link button below to register

This will be great opportunity to learn how to best support children in their early literacy development. The workshop is designed for parents and carers of 4-6 year olds, however anyone interested in literacy instruction (e.g. teachers, tutors, speech pathologists) is also welcome.

You will learn:

  • Fun, simple ways to help your child learn to read and spell simple words;
  • The key concepts of an evidence-based, phonics approach;
  • How to help your child when they make an error; and,
  • Why learning to read and write in English is challenging for many children

All attendees will receive a ‘Starter Kit’ containing resources that will allow you to immediately start putting your new skills into practise with your child at home.

Presenter, Alison Perry, is a speech pathologist with over 10 years’ experience. She has an in-depth understanding of how speech and oral language forms the foundation for literacy development and is trained to identify children who are at risk of literacy difficulties from an early age.
