Dark Man Set 1

The Dark Man series is designed for middle school and young adult struggling readers with very low reading levels who may have never successfully managed to read a book.

Each of the six books is short, but mature, with only 36 pages and word counts ranging from 230 & 380. The gritty and mysterious books grip readers and pull them into the tense storyline, even though the text is limited - short and simple, the language is terse. The sinister atmosphere and strong black-and-white illustrations entice even the most reluctant of teen readers plus the books have changing layouts to maintain interest and avoid predictability. The dark tales have a 'grown-up' style which doesn't patronise the reader.

Set One is the lowest level of readers. The books can be read in any order, but across the series the text offers some reading progression. These 6 books are the shorter stories in the Dark Man series focusing on the top 100 frequency words.

This pack contains the first six books in the series:

Dark Fire of Doom

• The Dark Man must search under the city for the magic fire, which is an evil gateway used by demons. Somehow, the Dark Man must close this gateway.

Destiny in the Dark

• The Dark Man walks with the mysterious Old Man in the city. He learns his destiny: a fight against evil that must only end one way.

The Dark Never Hides

• In The Dark Never Hides, the Dark Man dreams of his past - and comes to understand the desperate struggle against the Shadow Masters.

Escape from the Dark

• The Dark Man meets a girl who brings him a note. The girl is being followed and she needs help. The Dark Man must act quickly.

The Face in the Dark Mirror

• The Dark Man searches in an evil place for the Dark Mirror, which can tell true names. Can he avoid the walls which bite and find that which he seeks?

Fear in the Dark

• The Dark Man enlists the help of a girl to find the mystical Rod of Iron, which can control the future. But the Shadow Masters also seek the Rod of Iron....
