SPELD PD Workshop - Understanding Dyslexia: Assessment and Intervention

This Friday 29th July, SPELD NSW are hosting a professional development workshop with internationally renowned reading & spelling expert, Dr Nancy Mather, at the SMC Conference Centre in Sydney. Limited places are still available, so register online now!

Silvereye will have a resource display at the workshop open from 8.00 am - 3.30 pm with a broad array of resources focussed on dyslexia, reading and spelling skills.

This workshop will focus on both assessment and evidence-based interventions for students who struggle to learn to read and spell. Nancy Mather will address the definition of dyslexia; the importance of assessing cognitive and linguistic processes, including phonological awareness, orthographic coding, processing speed, and rapid automatised naming; the phases of development of basic reading and spelling skills; and the implementation of differentiated instructional methodologies.

Dr Nancy Mather is a Professor at the University of Arizona in Tucson in the Department of Disability and Psychoeducational Studies. She has served as a learning disabilities teacher, a diagnostician, a university professor, and an educational consultant. She has published numerous articles and books and conducts workshops on assessment and instruction both nationally and internationally. Dr. Mather is a co-author of the Woodcock-Johnson IV and has co-authored two books on interpretation and application of the WJ IV. Her most recent book on dyslexia is: Essentials of Dyslexia:  Assessment and Intervention (Mather & Wendling, 2012).
